Welcome to GetOut Outdoor Learning, a Community Interest Company providing Forest School and outdoor learning to schools, families and adults in East Lothian. We are passionate about supporting everyone, no matter their age, to Get Out and enjoy time immersed in nature.
GetOut was set up in the summer of 2024 by three enthusiastic Forest School leaders.
We had all worked together in our local community woodlands and seen the positive impact Forest School had on the groups we worked with.
We love our time spent in nature and felt it was really important to share the benfits of learning outdoors.
After several meetings around our kitchen tables we took the leap and set up our Community Interest Company to provide support to as many people as possible.
I grew up spending the majority of time outdoors playing in nature. In the school holidays I would go away with my family hillwalking, kyaking and sailing which gave me a real passion for outdoor learning.
Having spent many years working in education I have been fascinated by the way young children develop and interact with nature. This led me to both reflect on my own practice, and to develop my skills undertaking my forest school leader qualification, which when applied to my work had a positive impact on the young children and families.
I feel passionate to share this more widely, providing valuable experiences which will benefit society and individuals as they transition into adulthood.
I have always been an outdoor enthusiast, having been brought up on a farm and lived rurally for most of my life. I want others to be able to experience the many proven benefits of being outdoors in the same way that myself and my children have been able to over the years.
My work background is in teaching, and originally healthcare. I took a career break in 2023 to train as a Forest School Leader. We founded GetOut in the summer of 2024 and I have loved being able to share my enthusiasm for the outdoors with our current Forest School groups. I’m excited about the opportunities which GetOut will provide for groups across our community, particularly those who might not otherwise easily access the outdoors.
I have always loved spending time outdoors and some of my earliest memories are walking with my Dad, who would point out various plants and birds on the way.
When I had my own children we loved spending time in nature as a family and once they were all at school I qualified as a Forest School Leader.
I have since qualified as a Forest Therapy Practitioner working with adults. I feel really privileged to work outside, helping others enjoy the positve physical and mental health benfits that learning in nature can bring.
